Introducing you to Claire Silvers, November 2014 World Wide College of Auctioneering Graduate. Claire is currently the Area 9 State Vice President of the Missouri FFA Association.
Why did you decide to attend World Wide College of Auctioneering?
1. I have always enjoyed the sound of bid calling but I really became
fascinated with selling while sitting in sale barns and watching
cattle sales. After learning that Shannon Mays, one of my mentors, was
a World Wide graduate and instructor. I decided that this was the
place to go.
What one thing surprised you the most about auction school?
2. I was extremely surprised by the inclusiveness of auction school. I
went to class worried about meeting my classmates and instructors. By
the end of school I was absolutely in love with the family atmosphere
of the school and I didn't want to leave.
What state do you live in?
How many auctions have you attended this past year?
4. Over 20
Tell us about your family.
5. My parents are divorced, I live with my Mom who is an absolute goof
ball. My Mom, Amanda has been a driving force in motivating me to
always dream big. She is a favorite among many of my friends and words
do not describe what she means to me and what she has done for me. My
Dad drives a grain truck and can nearly always be found playing with a
gun in his spare time. Both sets of grandparents are some of the most
caring people you will ever meet. My Grandpa and Grandma Silvers have
been successful in business and now raise commercial Angus cattle,
they have been married for 61 years and serve as an inspiration, because of their love, success and commitment. My Grandma and Grandpa Morlan are always
there for moral support and aid me in reaching for my goals.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?
6. I would stay right where I am, Seven miles East of El Dorado
Springs, MO, I love the small town life and rural Missouri. I am a
little over an hour away from Springfield, Missouri and Joplin,
Missouri so I can go to more urban areas once in a while however I am
located in one of the cattle capitals of Missouri and that is really
what I am passionate about.
Tell us about one "aha" moment while attending auction school?
7.I definitely had a few "aha" moments in Mason City. One of them came
after class working with Jill Marie Wiles, as she finally started to get
a chant out of me and it started to click. I definitely had another
moment when we started doing circles as a group and I had to sell over
and over again.
Do you have a favorite quote that motivates you each day?
8." The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you
keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it."- Jordan Belfort
How many siblings do you have?
9. I am an only child!
Do you have a favorite auction company, if so, which one and why?
10. I have a lot of respect for different auction companies. As I said
earlier I really enjoy sale barns and there are many that I enjoy
locally because of they are family ran operations. I definitely
appreciate Superior Livestock Auctions as well as Shannon and
Associates in El Dorado Springs. They both do high quality work and I
have always looked to them for inspiration because of their
transparency and integrity.
