We would like to introduce you to 2006 World Wide College of Auctioneering Graduate, Ryan Reed.
1. Why did you decide to attend World Wide College of Auctioneering?
I decided to attend World Wide College of Auctioneering because I had a love for the chant and enjoyed every second of auctions that I was able to go to with my dad and grandpa. My dad offered to pay if I wanted to go and for a couple “terms” I put it off and finally bit the bullet and decided to attend and from that point on it has been life changing.
2. What one thing surprised you the most about auction school?
I was most surprised by the amount of improvement that everyone had in the class in the time that we had there and impressed with the amount of time and personal interaction we got to spend and have with the instructors.
3. What state do you live in?
Iowa, (Ottumwa, Iowa)
4. How many auctions have you attended this past year?
Approximately 150 in 2014, approximately 40 already in 2015
5. Tell us about your family.
My beautiful wife Ashley and I have been married for nearly 7 years. We have 3 wonderful and crazy kids, our daughter Layla is 5, and we have twin boys Lincoln and Landon who are 3. Two dogs Drake and Belle.
6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?
If I had a choice it would definitely be somewhere south and definitely be in a very strong very auction savvy market area.
7. Tell us about one "aha" moment while attending auction school.
The best “AHA” moment in my career so far has derived from auction school (World Wide Ringman Course) and that was merely a phone call that took place between Paul C. Behr, Marty Hill, and Shane Ratliff. Paul and Marty knew that I wanted nothing more than to break into the auto auction market and saw a level of competence and desire in me to make a call to Shane and ask him to let me come to Chicago and shadow him and work the ring for him etc. The rest is history!!! But that is a true Auctioneers Helping Auctioneers moment…
8. Do you have a favorite quote that motivates you each day?
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” -Zig Ziglar
This quote actually plays as my alarm ringtone every morning, its as important to start my day as my morning coffee.
9. How many siblings do you have?
I have 2 siblings, and older sister Bobbi Jo who works among the family businesses and is also a World Wide College of Auctioneering Graduate. I also have a younger brother, Tyler, Tyler is a chiropractor in Bolingbrook, IL (suburb of Chicago)
10. Do you have a favorite auction company, if so, which one and why?
I truly have so many that are among my favorites and most of them I have either been employed by or would like to be in the future.
Some of those are; Ratliff Auctioneers, Auctions by Yve, Nicholls Auction and Marketing Group, Assiter Auctioneers, Freije and Freije Auctions and Marketing, BowTie Benefit Auctions. Those are a few amongst the top of my favorites, for the personnel they employ, the business structure and plan they follow, the amazing amount of professionalism they have at all times and for so many more reasons.
