Introducing you to June 2008 World Wide College of Auctioneering Graduate Matt Hart.
1. Why did you decide to attend World Wide College of Auctioneering?
When I first decided that I wanted to enter the Auction Profession the local auctioneers that helped get me started were graduates of WWCA. Along with many of the competitions and each and every person I asked recommended the school. After exploring some on the internet I came to find that not only was it a school with pride in its bid calling technique but also in the vast business aspects of the auctioneering industry, knowing this, my choice was made.
2. What one thing surprised you the most about auction school?
I was really surprised to see such a diverse class, people who attend WWCA aren’t just residents of the Midwest United States, but many of my classmates came from long distances such as Northern Canada and even South America!
3. What state do you live in?
4. How many auctions have you attended this past year?
I would say somewhere around fifty or sixty auctions, most of those sales I was involved in, but I do like to attend competitors auctions and occasionally buy things myself.
5. Tell us about your family.
I come from a very close knit family of hard working entrepreneurs and business people. I have four older brothers and sisters who, along with my parents are some of my biggest supporters and critics. They will be the first to congratulate me, but also the ones to remind me if my ego needs a little “adjustment”. We spend a lot of time together laughing and encouraging others to do so.
6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?
I have always wanted to live in Australia or New Zealand, I do not enjoy the cold winters of Northern Illinois and have been told that auctions are pretty prevalent there, so that might just have to work someday.
7. Tell us about one "aha" moment while attending auction school.
As I attended WWCA as a “Refresher” student in February 2015 I had the unique experience to watch and encourage new students during many of their breakthrough moments where it started to work for them. That was pretty special as I gained a new energy for the industry, and the people involved in it.
8. Do you have a favorite quote that motivates you each day?
One that stands out most to me is “If you’re not going to be outstanding, don’t bother showing up!” –Tony Robbins
9. How many siblings do you have?
I have three older sisters and one older brother.
10. Do you have a favorite auction company, if so, which one and why?
It is difficult to pick only one, but Barrett Jackson stands out in my mind as they have really created the “Super Bowl” of auctions and have raised a lot of public awareness to the auction method of marketing in the process through their efforts. The Scottsdale auction is a spectacle and event that anyone in or out of the auction industry can appreciate.
