Introducing You To November 2015 Graduate Orion Roen

We would like to introduce you to November 2015 World Wide College of Auctioneering Graduate Orion Roen. He continued to network with classmates after auction school. Through his willingness to continue to work, he has worked out of state, with fellow classmates over the course of the past few months.

Orion

Why did you decide to attend World Wide College of Auctioneering?

I always heard Jack Hines talking about his fun at teaching at World Wide and when I asked Jack about getting down there, he said, "One experience you will not ever regret." I called Dawn up and she set me up. I had an amazing week and met amazing people that I connected with on an upmost level.

What one thing surprised you the most about auction school?

How much each student had changed in the course of 24 hours. I couldn't believe how much everyone continued to improve and connect with each other. We all walked in as strangers and came out as best friends, or rather family.

What state do you live in?

The Cheesehead State of Wisconsin.

How many auctions have you attended this past year?

Live: 5 Online (pickups): Too many to count.

Tell us about your family.

My mum works at a very large hospital about 3-5 days a week (9 hours a day). My dad works for a distribution center 4 days a week (10-12 hours a day). My older brother has a family with four kids and just recently became engaged. My older sister has a family with one girl and has been married around four years. My younger sister is in Junior High School and my younger brother is in 6th grade.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?

The United Kingdom, hands down! I've been planning and studying up on my decision for going on six years now. I am the traveling sort, as I always loved the European Culture and way of doing things. I've studied their politics, laws, education systems, healthcare, you name it. If all goes to plan, I'll be moved out and on my way to a UK citizenship in two years. I've often been asked, "Why?" I want to move there. Honestly, I never felt like the US is the place I belong. I just feel as though I would be better farther away from family and making new friends, with new connections in a different country.

Tell us about one "aha" moment while attending auction school.

When I finally stopped using the "I gots" all the time. I can't quite recall, but I think I said "aha!" when I did stop using them. Haven't used them since.

Do you have a favorite quote that motivates you each day?

I can't say only one, but two that I live by are, "Expect the Unexpected and move on" and "Make a life you don't need a vacation from." Those two are the quotes that I've thought about every single day.

How many siblings do you have?

Five

Do you have a favorite auction company, if so, which one and why?

I have to say Hines Auction Service in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. Not only do I work for them in the summer, but I've known Jeff and Jack for at least 15 years. If it weren't for Jeff and Jack, I would have never looked at them and thought, "I want to do that someday." Now I work in the summer with amazing co workers. As I've said, " If you laugh once a day during your job, you know you're doing the right job." I look forward to waking up and going to work. I travel, I have fun, meet people, and can make a living doing it. One step to that life that I don't need a vacation from.
